Dan Antion has graciously agreed to take over the management of Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge (#CFFC). This week’s theme: Commercial Buildings or store fronts. Here is my contribution:
I know little about this building in the above photo, except for what the sign says: Athabasca Pottery Club, and I like the look of the facade.
I found this building on my drive through Athabasca Alberta Canada in the Summer of 2022.

Thats a great photo and I love your story – An arty hub for the community; letting old buildings for the creative flair.
This is a wonderful project and a brilliant idea, breathing new life into old commercial spaces.

Yes, it is nice to see these buildings in good shape/restored and repurposed. I’m glad you enjoyed the photo from my summer archives.

The building looks like it might have been a school at some point.

I think your correct Liz. Well spotted. There are several school buildings where I live that look similar; that is probably why it caught my eye in the first place.

Interesting! We have a lot of those brick former schools in our area. I like them much better than the new ones, but I’m old-fashioned when it comes to architecture.

I did not know they were also built in that style in the USA as well. Fascinating. Thank you!

You’re welcome! My high school was that style. It was built in the 1890s.

Wow, that is amazing, the 1890s. They built them to last. Thank you Liz for these insights. I love learning about earlier periods of architecture.

I loved that creaky old building. The windows actually opened for fresh air and daydreaming purposes.

Someone commented that it looks like a school and until I read the Pottery Club, I thought it was a school. It looks a little like my elementary school in Manitoba. Maggie

Oh thats awesome Maggie. Hopefully good school days memories. Yes another person mentioned it looked like a school. That is probably why it caught my eye as I was driving in the area. Here we have several older school buildings with a similar architecture.
