*This week’s feature is a mix of holiday-themed doors.
I have chosen to introduce them with the featured image above of the Holy Door at St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome. The Holy door will be opened on December 24, 2024, to mark the beginning of the Jubilee Year of Hope (from Dec. 24, 2024, —Christmas Eve, to Jan. 6, 2026—the feast of the Epiphany). The Holy Door was last opened in 2015 —a departure from its regular cycle, of once every 25 years.

A lovely festive post. I love repurposed cable cars/gondolas, it feels so good to give them a new life after retirement. Nice haiku and stunning Vatican door, which I am sure I have seen many moons ago.
I’m glad you enjoyed the share, Stephen. Yes, those gondolas were built to last, I think. Nice to see one reused. Well spotted, yes!! The Holy Door was featured years ago.. Good memory. Have a good one! Cheers. .

I was very interested to know why
And learned that it was an extraordinary Jubilee Year of Mercy in 2015-2016. Jubilee years have been held on regular intervals in the Catholic church since 1300, but they trace their roots to the Jewish tradition of marking a jubilee year every 50 years.
These years in Jewish history were “intended to be marked as a time to re-establish a proper relationship with God, with one another, and with all of creation, and involved the forgiveness of debts, the return of misappropriated land, and a fallow period for the fields.
This year the Holy Door will also be opened Dec. 26 at Rebibbia Prison in Rome to wash the inmates feet.
All the doors featured for this Thursday’s Doors are absolutely stunning! The Holy Door at St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome stands out with its profound significance, symbolizing the Jubilee of Hope—something the world truly needs right now. It reminds us to live in blessed hope.
The quaint restaurant door in Quebec evokes such warm nostalgia, as does the tram door in Lucerne, both filled with stories of simple, everyday charm. For those strolling past Cartier in London, don’t forget to snap a photo with the iconic red telephone boot.
And the Little Sugar Shack door in Quebec deserves a special Christmas greeting—its name alone brings a festive smile.
Thank you for sharing these beautiful images of holy and festive doors. They truly inspire reflection and joy!
Your research garned much good fruit on the reason for the unschedule opening of the holy door in 2015 as an expression of “Mercy’s” one-year Jubilee. How profound that jesture is in so many ways!
There is much need of hope and hope in what is good, excellent, praiseworthy, elements that are worthy of thought during this season. I totaly agree with your insight/reflection.
So delighted the festive offerings of various functional (shops, restaurants etc) and how they ring in the season in their special style unique to each.
Yes to ‘the little sugar shack of Quebec’s” charm, its an much loved place and icon of the area/province.
Thank you, Poet. I plan to spend some time sitting by the fire outside, immersing myself in reading and research on these significant years.
I completely agree—we need to fill our jars with hope and prayer. On December 1, 2024, we had a National Day of Prayer hosted by the Motsepe Foundation. My son served as an usher on this occasion, and he shared how no event has ever filled the soccer stadium like this before. He described the atmosphere as indescribably moving—a powerful testament to the dire need for such a gathering in our country. He was both elated and humbled to have been part of the planning and to witness the impact of this incredible prayer movement firsthand.
I also enjoyed this Thursday’s offering, especially with all the extra doors. I can only imagine the crowds the Sugar Shack draws.
A national day of prayer is a beautiful expression of faith and a call as one voice is an huge and powerful prayer. I am glad that your son was a part of so moving and humbling an experience.
Enjoy the warmth by the fire and research…Oh that sounds so lovely…wowee. Blessings to you.
P.S. The Sugar Shack you are right has no shortage of customers.
It’s a beautiful evening out here. I’m near to the city of gold for the festive season. I will most definitely enjoy these nights outdoors. I love the quiet here.
Oh yes it was a blessed ocassion.
He was telling me that this is much bigger than football.
Working with the big boss was a huge learning curve for him in terms of planning.
I can’t impress upon you more the humbling experience to plan with someone of that stature.
Most definitely the prayers ring into eternity
Today was National toy day and he worked at it the whole day. Same thing.
Wonderful and blessed to be able to sit by the fire and commune with God and nature. You are blessed.
Your son is blessed as well with such great opportunities for personal/spiritual growth and giving back to the community. Blessings to him.
Yes, I am blessed, thank you Poet.
True, it’s been quite a year.
I pray God’s continued guidance and blessing upon his life, work and growth.
Thank you.
Thank you for recognizing hope in your haiku, Suzette. Hope is key among the feelings and emotions this time of year. I love the doors you chose and the information provided. These days, we have to struggle to find images that link to the true meaning of the season. Thanks for giving us some of that.
I agree Dan that hope is the strength and glue that keep preserverance willing to go on expecting good things. I am glad you enjoyed the selection. Thank you for suggesting this theme for this day. An excellent choice. Blessing to you this day. May grace abound in your path.
