Legends –  A Pantoum #TDWC

Standing in the gap, breach repairers,

Arcs of sentinels, peace their bronze bonds.

Their names are bravery’s mile markers

engraved silence writes their legends.

*

Arcs of sentinels, peace their bronze bonds

history’s fountains their courage mirror,

engraved silence writes their legends,

Potomac breezes regale their valor.

*

History’s fountains their courage mirror

gazes upon faraway fields, they did not know

Potomac breezes regale their valor

on distant front lines, where poppies grow.

  1. A poignant tale, always remembered

    forever told

war, bravery, valour and the poppy fields

love the sound of the Potomac breeze

and the simplicity of the rhyme scheme

  2. The poetic form makes me feel something like waves washing ashore; there’s a sense of repetition that is soft, and it seems fitting for so many reasons, not the least of which is the repetition of suffering and grieving. “Engraved silence” is beautifully poetic. I think you have created a word monument artfully connected to the one in the photo.
