**The featured bronze doors (1602 A.D) are the main entrance doors to the Duomo di Pisa (Pisa Cathedral) in Italy.

At 4.67 meters (15 ft) tall and 2.70 meters (8.8 ft), wide these bronze doors comprise 28 bronze panels detailing stories from the Bible. Close-ups below.

Trivia #1: Galileo Galilei is rumored to have developed his theory of the Pendulum by observing the lamp/chandelier suspended 49 meters (160 feet) in Pisa Cathedral’s nave ceiling as it oscillated unaided.

Trivia #2: The Leaning Tower of Pisa is of course, leaning. But, did you know that all the other structures on the “Field of Miracles” —(the name given to the ground under and surrounding the Tower of Pisa) also lean?

Pisa Cathedral (next door to the Tower of Pisa) has apparently genuflected slightly —thus far, the building has tilted 5.5 degrees off center from its original orientation (circa 1602 A.D.)

  1. Wonderful haiku, Suzette, and I love the information you provided. I did not realize that there were other buildings that lean in that area – that’s interesting. I wonder if Galileo was thinking about the pendulum theory while not paying attention to the service. I’ve been guilty of that 😉

    1. Thank you Dan. I have been guilty of that too! I don’t blame Galileo in his case, that magnificent chandelier or lamp as they call it hanging from a great height above the nave, vibrating and swaying on its own.. would capture one’s attention.
Thank you Dan for hosting, I know from reading your blog posts that you have a lot on the go. So thank you extra much for hosting ThursdayDoors. Cheers

I didn’t know, this is amazing.
28 bronze panels – I’m in awe of this region of the world to go to this extent to exhibit the stories of the Bible.
A stunning green do, it looks like a Forest Green.

      1. YES, Poet
It is so beautiful, to think it turned into this colour of green, but that’s what bronze does, together with the elements.
Wow yes just thinking about it, picture storiesmust’ve been so important, one cannot estimate the level of literacy at the time.

Wishing you a marvelous day too.
        Thank you.

  3. Suzette, your Haiku shares the richness of experiencing this chosen cathedral. When my oldest daughter was completing her design architecture studies, she traveled to Europe and was blessed with seeing this site.

  4. Leaning on a field of miracles is an interesting way of putting it. It speaks of weakness and strength, I think. Those panels are amazing.
