Nitric Nik – A Short Story

Ova Cher rushes into the kitchen. She looks both ways nervously. She sighs in relief.

On tiptoes, she opens the back door to let him in.

“Do you have it? I got the other equipment. Hurry up!”

“Sorry, I am going as fast as I can.” Ruddie, who prefers his more exciting alias Nitric Nik, replied.

“Okay, let’s get to it. It is Halloween, and I want them gone before the party tonight.”

Grunting and muttering, his lips moving as he read the expert instructions he obtained from YouTube and had written on his arms with a sharpie, Nitric Nik set out to work.

A few feverish moments later, he whispered with success beaming in his five-year-old eyes: “Okay, okay, help me pull the fridge out before they figure out what we are doing and escape.”

“Okay shhhhh…pull…quietly!”

Ova Cher peeks behind the fridge and holds her breath, gasping silently. The massive dust bunnies coiled around a six-year-old desiccated carrot ignored her frightened stare.

Nitric Nik looked askance at Ova Cher.

“Well…are they still there?”

Ova Cher traumatized, nods furiously in assent.

“Here, put this down on the floor behind the fridge and run…!”

“What you mean, ‘run’!”

“And why does auntie’s Roomba (robot vacuum) look like Edward Scissorhands?”

“I didn’t have enough arm space to write down how to stop it. Run!”

      1. Such a cute figure
They live out their stories they follow on tv in real life
And you retold it so beautifully

I’m always looking down when I’m walking inside the house just in case I stumble and fall over some “live ammunition”

        Thank you
        Have a wonderful day
        Who are you going as?

      2. My pleasure.
Always wise to look out for those creations lurking underfoot from the young ones๐Ÿ™‚

I don’t dress up for Halloween, never had an interest in the costume side, but love the story telling side of things.

  2. This is a sweet story. I shudder to think of the dust bunnies behind our refrigerator. I loved the ending of this precious story and the photograph you choose was perfect. Sending big hugs and blessings, Joni
