For the ‘ugly’, shrubby rose that only blooms in the spring?
Petals laden with scent
Exceptionally fragrant.

A long listing variety dating way back to the early Greek and Roman times used for healing and aromatherapy. Yet as you say correctly its blooms are shortlived.
