Remarks: This modest Gothic Revival doorway is the grand entrance to what experts consider to be the only “complete” castle in North America. These double doors are the entryway to the castle’s ninety-eight rooms sprawled over more than 64, 000 square feet (6,011 meters2). Now a national landmark museum and entertainment space owned by the City of Toronto, Casa Loma in Toronto’s Davenport district was built between 1911 and 1914 by Sir Henry Pallett.

Trivia: Casa Loma’s lavish interior has been featured in over a dozen movies—most notably, as the location for Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters (X-Mansion) in the original Marvel Comics’ X-men movie. Although there is no official proof, rumors persist that somewhere in the castle a secret spy facility built devices to detect U-boats during World War II. Also unconfirmed, some say that author Ian Fleming (of James Bond-007 fame), who visited Toronto briefly, was allegedly inspired by those rumors and by the castle itself.

  1. What a magnificent castle and how it has grown in statue through the centuries. As always I’m so impressed by the artists, filmmakers and storytellers for wooing these rooms back onto the front pages of history with their craft.

So many amazing rooms to explore revealing some of its secrets.
Marvel just got it right. Turning a castle into a school.
These are marvelous corridors to explore

Just the way you did with your castle haiku.

    1. It is indeed a marvel….lots to explore there. I love all of your reflective points…how marvelous it is that film and story revive the spirit of places like these for a new generation to explore.
May your day be full of peace.
      Thank you.

  2. Thank you for highlighting this castle with your lovely haiku. I hope you will join us in the writing challenge. I know it’s an odd request – you share your talent each week – but I like how you combine poetry and doors.
