Remarks: This centuries-old oak door along St. Mary’s Passage, Oxford, features a carved lion’s head. Once the entrance to a pub in the seventeenth century, the structure is now part of Brasenose College, University of Oxford, England.

Trivia: although there is little evidence to support the claim, the legend persists that C. S. Lewis was inspired by the lion carving on this door for his character in The Witch, The Lion, and The Wardrobe.

  1. Majestic door -poet-
To a trove of legendary treasure
Lying in store, keeper of literature

I love Doors…they are symbolic features of the mansions of our souls.

    Exquisite as always
    The eye-catching placement of words

  2. That’s a beautiful poem, Suzette. Great presentation for a wonderfully historic door. Even without any proof, I’m going to go with the legend, of inspiration. Walking through that door to snag a pint had to be inspiring.
